1) Inge Bell in This Book is Not Required writes about the minister who serves Detroit automobile executives who says: These men are monks — monks who’ve traded their prayer books for a production line. Explain what the minister means by this in the context of our class on stratification and culture.

2) In Berger and Luckmann, the creat a scenario in which it would be possible to convince people (construct reality) that eating a diet of raw fish will allow you to talk to beings from outer space. In the summary, legitmations were offered for only tall people hunting and people paying for food. You do it. Create an absurd scenario and explain how through the social construction of reality you could convince someone that this was real. Use any of the information you have learned this semester to answer this question. HINT: THE MORE ABSURD YOU CAN BE THE BETTER!!!

I don’t want ansewers for these, I just need an idea. Please help me!!

Okay here’s an idea for number one:
What the minister is saying is that the executives eat, sleep, breathe, poop and live work!!! Their work IS their religion. These executives are so obessed with their corporations, they are monks, Monks who’s religion IS their work. Instead of praying out of a prayer book, they pray out of their assembly line….praying for huge profits. Hope this helps.
